As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,
Noujoud is a 7-month-old baby who was born with a congenital condition called spina bifida, a disorder that severely affects the spine. Unfortunately, this condition caused partial paralysis, and she cannot move her legs.
Since birth, she has undergone three surgeries on her head due to the accumulation of fluid in the brain (hydrocephalus). Doctors had to place a tube (shunt) from her head to her bladder to drain the fluid, and this tube is permanently connected to her body.
In addition, she underwent back surgery to remove a protrusion caused by spina bifida.
Noujoud’s family is going through a very difficult situation, both emotionally and financially. Medical treatments, check-ups, medication, and special care represent a major expense that they cannot manage alone.
Currently, Noujoud receives physiotherapy sessions at a cost of 100 dirhams per session. She needs three sessions per week, which represents an ongoing expense.
